Wind Chimes

If fissures of the land are memories of earthquakes, the lines on our palms are reminiscent of our earlier lives. In the Tsunan Village the earthquake-stricken Echigo Tsumari, 16 families were invited to participate in the project over a one-year period. The villagers’ palm lines were traced and molded into metal branches, which were then transformed into wind chimes. These mementos of life still find their place in the homes of the villagers, and keep ringing the song of each family.
